NCERT Academic Eligibility Criteria

NCERT Academic Eligibility Criteria define clear and experience-focused requirements for senior and junior academic roles, giving strong preference to candidates with recognized PhD qualifications, quality research publications, proven teaching or research experience, and valid UGC norms compliance.

1. Professor (Option A or B)

  • Option A: PhD in relevant/allied discipline , 10+ research publications in peer-reviewed/UGC-listed journals , 120+ total research score , 10+ years of teaching/research experience , and evidence of guiding doctoral candidates.

  • Option B: PhD in relevant/allied discipline , 10+ years of experience , and significant contribution to knowledge supported by documentary evidence.

2. Associate Professor

  • PhD in relevant/allied/concerned discipline.

  • Master’s Degree with at least 55% marks.

  • Minimum 8 years of teaching/research experience in an equivalent academic position.

  • At least 7 publications in peer-reviewed/UGC-listed journals.

  • Minimum research score of 75.

3. Assistant Professor (Condition A or B)

  • Condition A: Master’s degree with 55% marks and cleared NET/SLET/SET. PhD holders under 2009/2016 regulations are exempt from NET. Special exemptions apply for PhDs registered before July 11, 2009, subject to specific conditions.

  • Condition B: PhD obtained from a foreign university ranked in the top 500 by QS, THE, or ARWU.

4. Deputy Librarian

  • Master’s degree in Library/Information/Documentation Science with 55% marks.

  • Minimum 8 years of experience as an Assistant University/College Librarian.

  • Evidence of innovative library services and ICT integration.

  • PhD in Library Science or related field.

5. Assistant Librarian

  • Master’s degree in Library/Information/Documentation Science with 55% marks.

  • Consistently good academic record with knowledge of library computerization.

  • Cleared NET/SLET/SET or holds a PhD per UGC regulations.

How NCERT Will Shortlist Candidates

NCERT will follow a transparent and merit-based shortlisting system where candidates are first filtered through academic score based shortlisting, and the final merit is decided purely on interview performance

  • For Assistant Professor

    • Up to 50 candidates per category for the first vacancy

    • 5 candidates for every additional vacancy

  • For Professor and Associate Professor
